KXIP beat KKR by eight wickets and register their fifth win of the tournament.

With this win, KXIP move into the top four, displacing KKR from the fourth place.

A short ball gets too big on Gayle and Ferguson finally gets a wicket.

Gayle tried to move away from the line of the ball but decided to guide it over third man at the last moment. The ball took the gloves and landed in the hands of Krishna at short third man.

Mandeep ends the 18th over with a six over wide long-on and KXIP now need only three runs to win in the last two overs.

This has been a comprehensive performance by KXIP.

Mandeep goes inside-out over covers again and gets another boundary.

Cummins pitches it up outside off and Mandeep takes full advantage of the scoring opportunity.

Gayle gets his second IPL 2020 fifty, and he gets there off just 25 balls. That’s a match-defining inning there by the big man from West Indies.

Ferguson bowls the next on good length but Gayle was ready for it. He smashes that back past the bowler for a flat six.

Top edge and four.

Ferguson banged in it and this short ball got too big on Gayle, who looked to hook it but only got a top edge as the ball flew over the fine leg region for four.

Krishna drops it short and Mandeep absolutely smashes that through mid-wicket for another four.

KXIP are dominating this contest and a victory seems to be a formality now. Just 27 needed off 24 balls.

Mandeep gets his first IPL 2020 fifty – is first fifty in IPL since the 2017 season.

He has taken 49 balls to get there but has held one end up while Gayle has attacked from the other.

Krishna comes back into the attack and bowls a back-of-length delivery that Mandeep hits through mid-wicket for four.

Chakravarthy bowls full and outside off and Mandeep plays it inside-out over the covers for four.

Mandeep is into his 40s and looks good for a half-century here. Just 42 more runs are needed by KXIP for victory.

Ferguson pitches it up and Mandeep makes room for himself before hitting it through mid-on for another four.

Short ball by Narine and Gayle pulls it over wide long-on for another six. It’s gettting too easy for KXIP here. KKR need a wicket to pull things back.

Gayle gets a four as well off Ferguson. He opens the face of the bat and guides the ball behind square on the off side for four.

Ferguson runs in to bowl his first ball and Mandeep welcomes the pacer with a hit over mid-on for four.

KKR bowlers are making the mistake of pitching the ball too full and making it easy for the batsmen to hit through the line.

Narine makes the mistake of bowling full and Gayle gives him the same treatment as Chakravarthy.

He hits this one over wide long-on for another six.

This was even longer and went higher up in the air.

The ball was pitched outside off and so the six was hit over long-off. But the result is the same as far KXIP are concerned.

Gayle gets into the act as well.

This was pitched up by Chakravarthy and was right in the slot for Gayle, who clears long-on with ease with a nonchalant swipe off his willow.

Mandeep brings out the reverse sweep and hits the ball well over the head of short third man for four.

The right-hander is looking to take risks here and push the rate up.

Chris Gayle walks in to bat at No. 3. Kings XI have reached 50 in nine overs and need 100 runs off 66 balls.

One of the two batsmen here will have to take calculated risks and other may look to bat through the innings.

Chakravarthy gets his man. KKR have their first wicket.

This looked like a straight ball and Rahul tried to play across hit. He misses the ball completely and gets hit on the front pad, right in front of his stumps.

Chakravarthy errs in line and provides some room to KL Rahul outside off stump. Rahul cuts that nicely behind point for another four.

Chakravarthy has been named in India’s T20I squad for the tour of Australia. 

Not sure if he is aware of his call-up, though. If he is, he would be high on confidence after his maiden India call-up.

He concedes only two runs in his first over.

Good, old slog there by Mandeep, and he gets another four.

A full ball by Cummins there and Mandeep hits this over mid-on for four. This has become a good start for KXIP.

Mandeep breaks the shackles.

He gets the right length and hammers a ball from Cummins over wide long-on for six. That will help him get going.

Krishna bowls a full toss and Rahul takes full advantage by driving it down the ground for another boundary.

Finally, KL Rahul gets a convincing stroke off his bat. This was slightly short in length and Rahul hits this one over mid-on for a boundary.

He didn’t time it as well as he would have liked, but got four nevertheless.

KKR pacers maintain good areas with the ball

Both KKR pacers have maintained good areas here. Mandeep has been tied to his crease and as a result he goes for a release shot, hitting the ball over the infield on the off side.

Luckily for Mandeep, the ball lands safely, away from the fielder at mid-off who had been backtracking.

Prasidh Krishna starts well with the ball

It’s Prasidh Krishna from the other end for KKR and he makes up for the misfield in the first over with good areas with the ball.

Just four runs come from the second over.

Misfield on the first ball. That’s not what KKR are looking to do.

KL guides this ball from Cummins to deep point where Prasidh Krishna lets the ball slip through his hands and hit the boundary rope.

150 runs are needed to win. KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh are out there to open the innings for KXIP.

KKR 149/9 in 20 overs

KKR finish on an underwhelming 149 for 9 as Kings XI bowl well at the death. Shubman Gill top scores with 57 runs and Eoin Morgan made a quick 40 off just 25 balls.

Mohammed Shami finishes 3 for 35 in four overs while Chris Jordan and Ravi Bishnoi finish with two wickets each.

Shami comes back to bowl and gets the big wicket of Gill. This was an attemped yokrer that came out as a low full toss and Gill tried it hit it over wide long-on.

Gill fails to clear Pooran at the boundary and KKR lose their eighth wicket.

Lockie Ferguson, where were you all this time? That’s a question KKR should ask themselves as the big man from New Zealand looks in fine touch with the bat.

This ball was slightly wide of off stump and Ferguson slashes it behind point for another four. He has raced away to 14 off seven balls.

Ferguson gets his second boundary as Jordan pitches one too full and gets driven through the covers for a four.
