Judge Cooke has been a Judge in the Lands Chamber of the Upper Tribunal since 2019. She was admitted as a Solicitor in 1988, and was a professor of law at the University of Reading from 2003 to 2015. A Cornish boy who suffered a cardiac arrest while at school has reunited with Cornwall Air Ambulance paramedics who attended his incident for the first time. Finlay, 12, suffered the attack due to a previously unknown heart condition while at Penrice Academy on 9th December 2021. However, due to the quick actions of staff, his life was saved thanks to the school’s defibrillator – which brought him extra time for the paramedics to arrive on scene. Cornwall Air Ambulance paramedics Thomas Hennessy-Jones and Louise Lamble were tasked to the incident and were able to transfer him to Royal Cornwall Hospital for further care. Gym manager Adam Domyslawski, from Club Continental in Plymouth, has raised £5182 for local charity Friends and Families by completing a non-stop 12-hour fitness challenge. The money raised will help provide valuable support and activities that are a lifeline to many families with disabled children. During the challenge, Adam cycled 102km, skied 68km, rowed 34km and lifted an incredible 35 tonnes in deadlifts – only to stop for quick comfort breaks! Blind and partially sighted people living in Somerset are finding their voices, thanks to a unique opportunity provided by Taunton-based charity Somerset Sight. The charity, which was established in 1919, provides support to more than 3,000 people living in Somerset who are partially sighted or blind. It organises meetings and events, including a fortnightly choir practice. Every choir member is either blind or visually impaired, including the accompanist, pianist Chris Ball. An emergency dash from the other side of the world back to her home town in Devon has proved to be truly life-changing for Sarah Valentine. After achieving an incredible 5.5 stone weight loss during an extended visit to the UK, she has finally been able to return to New Zealand – surprising her husband and son with her transformation, who had no idea what she was up to! Aldi has supported local charities, community groups and food banks in Dorset by donating 11,520 meals to people in need this Christmas. The supermarket paired up its stores with local organisations to make the most of unsold fresh and chilled food after stores closed on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, as part of its pledge to donate 1.8 million meals to families experiencing food poverty during November and December. Around 550,000 meals were donated nationwide and more than 700 UK causes benefitted from the initiative over the festive period. Dr Robert Simpson-White is celebrating his 100th birthday on January 18th. Dr Simpson-White was a very well known family GP in Plymouth, from the early 1950’s, after taking over his father’s practice on Union Street. In 1961 he moved his surgery to Adelaide Street, Stonehouse, where he practised single handedly until he retired in 1988. Dr Simpson-White set up the Plymouth Deputising Service to cover GP’s holidays, evening and weekend work. This was before paramedics existed, so was a vital part of patient healthcare. He was also chairman of The Plymouth Medical Society, and served on the Family Practitioner Disciplinary Committee for 21 years. President Jeff Horgan, Members and Ladies of the Lions Club of Plymouth proudly announce the 100th birthday of Honorary Member Marie Heathershaw.  Marie moved to Plymouth after W.W.2 with her husband Reuben and lived in Peverell. Reuben was a founder member of the Lions Club of Plymouth and was President of the club for the year 1976/1977. They both took an active part forming and running the club and were always involved in its fundraising activities. In her later years Marie worked as a Civil servant at the Plymouth Royal Naval Dockyard.
