Insurance Manager

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University of Bristol for an experienced insurance professional, based with the Secretary’s office. The position offers varied and interesting in-house work for a suitably qualified person. You will be placing a range of cover, from property and business interruption to clinical trials, and making sure claims are processed fairly and settled promptly. The University currently uses different Insurance Brokers for specialised areas of risk and places other policies directly with Insurers. The University plans a new campus at Temple Quarter and you will be oversee the insurance requirements for the project. The present post holder is retiring, so a fresh approach and new ideas will be welcomed.

What will you be doing?

Higher education presents a unique, complex and stimulating environment, where the insurance needs must be carefully considered. You will be faced with a challenging and varied workload that will require a flexible and clear-headed approach, combined with excellent communication and organisational skills. You will be expected to develop positive working relationships with stakeholders both within and outside the University.

You should apply if

You will have outstanding interpersonal skills, facilitating engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including working and liaising directly with colleagues at all levels across the University. You will provide advice and guidance to the University’s c.75,000 staff, including academics, professional services and technical staff.

You will have sound knowledge and practical experience of the following:

  • Insurance related regulations and legislation
  • Extensive practical commercial insurance experience in a similar role, such as:
    • With an organisation having a diverse insurance portfolio
    • Property or liability underwriter
    • Insurance Broker
    • Demonstrable commitment to excellent customer service
    • Up to date knowledge of insurance related regulations and legislation

You must hold a qualification with the Chartered Insurance Institute (general insurance), preferably at Diploma level or above. Alternatively, you will have had extensive practical commercial insurance experience in a similar role. Please consult the Person Specification within the Job Description for full details.
